8 Reasons Why Your Website Is Not Indexed
This is a common occurrence. There are several reasons why it might happen. The following is a list of the common things that cause your site not to be indexed.
Time for Indexing
It often takes some time before your site is indexed after submission to a search engine. This period is indicated on the submission page of the search engine. This period is not always updated and might be inaccurate.
Average index times vary between 1 week and 8 weeks among the different search engines. It is advisable to wait for a period of four months.
To move from 10th position to 1st, time is necessary. However, if your page does not appear at all, you may need to review your content, keyword and keyword tags, title and description.
Sitemap
If a page cannot be accessed directly from your home page, search engines may choose to ignore it. Your pages need to be interconnected like roads, allowing one to easily move through the site. HotBot is known to ignore pages that it cannot readily reach.
Links to External Sites
Your home page may not be indexed if it does not have links to other websites. Google and HotBot are examples of search engines that don't index pages if there are no external links present.
They sometimes index pages that don't have links to external sites, but they only do this for short periods and thereafter remove them from their database if they fail to get links to external sites.
Frames
It is a widely accepted idea that non-framed versions of websites promote indexing. This is because search engines may quit often not index the content of menu frame.
They index the main content and ignore the rest. Your website visitors may miss the information in the menus.
Blocking Spiders
Websites that demand for registration or passwords prior to giving one access don't get indexed since the spiders cannot complete the forms provided. Content that is also available only in a database that has to be queried is not included.
Creating static pages is the recommended solution to this problem. Static pages can be found and accessed without any action being taken. There are utility programs and some companies that can help you with this task if you have a database system.
Pages that are Dynamic
Pages whose URL contains special character like the ampersand (&) or a question mark (?) are usually ignored. These are often pages generated from a database after it has been queried.
If you want a particular page indexed, create a static version of it so that search engines may include it. Your rankings can be negatively affected by the use of complicated scripts and programming code. Keep it simple.
Size
If the pages of your website are large in size or have a complex design, a spider may be unable to finish indexing it. These long loading periods can also be caused by a slow internet connection on your site.
A page should typically not exceed 50K for it to load fast and avoid the aforementioned problem.
Redirecting
search engines will not index sites that try to cloak themselves or use IP redirection technology. Redirects as well as meta refresh tags hamper the search engines indexing ability.
