Effective Unique Selling Propositions

When you are running a business - either online or in a true, honest to goodness brick and mortar establishment - you need to have a unique selling proposition or USP. Your USP helps you promote your product in an original and unique way and while you may already have one in place, many other businesses do not.

This guide will help you set up and utilize your USP so that it helps you promote and sell your product and make your business thrive.

Be Individual

When developing an effective USP, you want to demonstrate to your potential clients why your product is different and better than all the rest on the market.

While it is relatively easy to get you product on the market, it's harder to sell when placed up against the competition. Therefore you must define why it is unique compared to all the rest.

Use Slogans That Define You

By using a unique USP a company can define itself in a precise way. A unique USP could include a slogan that is catchy and makes the customer want to know more about the product and your company.

If you used a precisely defined USP slogan at the top of each of your websites pages, people will hear that slogan and automatically associate it with your company. By also using search engine keywords in your USP defined slogan, you will attract more business when people search for the item types you are selling.

Keep It Short

Keep your USP slogans as short as possible. A short sentence, two tops, is all you need to get your message across and make people remember you and your product. Don't ramble or be confusing. Be straight to the point and you'll be better off.

Consider these two USPs that are used by two major companies. "Melts in your mouth not in your hands" is the USP slogan used by M&Ms. It gets their message across that their candy is unique in that it doesn't melt in your hands if your hold them there. It's also a great marketing slogan because it's easy to remember.

"Have it your way at Burger King" is another good USP. They are promoting the unique concept that their customers can custom order their burger and its short enough to remember as a slogan.

These USPs are description, short, easy to remember, and precisely define the company and their products. Was the product you are selling created to fill a specific niche or to solve a problem people were experiencing? Use these things as selling points when creating your unique USP.

List all of the features and benefits of your product, compare them to competitors, and then research what your customers like the most about the item. Once you have that information at your disposal, you can create a very strong, descriptive, and uniquely specific USP for your product.

Just remember to precisely define why your product is unique so that it will help your customers remember you and come back for more.
