How To Avoid Being Accused Of Spamming

Email marketing involves the use of the internet to send in emails to promote a particular product or service. This is a easy method for a company to reach out to its customers.

While doing so, companies must bear in mind to do it the legal way and avoid spamming. So, when performed right, email marketing is a cheap and rapid route to cater to a big group of people.

While being cheap and quick to reach out to a vast majority of people, it is a common portal for you and a spammer to share the inbox of such people which might confuse the reader and just make them delete the mail along with the other junk mail without bothering to open it.

This is a huge obstacle for email marketing. So, in order to avoid such problems, email marketing should be aimed at the right group of people while avoiding spamming.

For this reason, you should choose to go the way of opt-in mail system where people subscribe on your website or provide with email details while purchase your product or service.

Even with having such a system in place, your leads that are opt-ins might soon want to opt out of the lists that you have maintained unless you maintain the interest that you had generated initially. This can be done by many methods some of which are:

Providing discounts on a regular basis

Mails to target lists

Provide interesting content that is very relevant to the needs of the customers. This can be in the form of newsletters and ezines containing valuable information required by the reader.
Creating interesting titles in the email subject.

Putting your company name in the "From" section in the mail

Providing links to valuable information that will enlighten the reader more on the subject you are continuing.

Keep the needs of the customer in mind while designing your email marketing campaign.

The first part of your content matter is very crucial in providing information and holding the interest of the reader to gently prod the person to read on till the end. So, whatever you need the reader to know about the company needs to be put close to the end.

As mentioned previously, there should be right links placed on newsletters that will bring the customer to the landing page of your company website. They should not be made to scour for the information by starting from the homepage.

Some important rules to follow to avoid spamming and to follow good email marketing strategies:

  • Ensure that people on your mailing lists have volunteered to receive mails from you.

  • Customers must get to know that whatever information they are providing will not be let out or used for other purposes.

  • While volunteering, they should be made aware that they can choose to get themselves removed from the mailing lists. This is an essential part of law pertaining to spam.

The content that you are sending out must be apt, concise and conform to the needs of the customers so that it generates enough interest to be opened.

  • Do not overload by sending out emails on a daily basis. You can restrict yourself to sending mails on a weekly basis instead.

  • You need to give the options of both HTML and text.

Newsletters sent out on a regular basis are a good email marketing strategy to entice customers to your site.

This needs to be at regular intervals like monthly or bi-monthly basis so that your customers are not irritated and annoyed and will remain aware of the various events and offers on your products or services.
